    What is the role of medical education departments and/or units?

    Centers for Educational Development (CEDs) or Educational Development Centers (EDCs- preferred by WHO) & Medical Education Departments have different roles. Both are complementary and needed.

    The Medical Education Department as any academic department cannot rule the Faculty or become a superpower to be responsible for training and development of the whole faculty. EDCs does!

    EDCs should be responsible about Faculty development (both Faculty اعضاء هيئة التدريس& Curriculum).

    All School Faculty can be members in this center when they are qualified in medical education. So, the center could be considered a central body under direct authority of the deanship. So, they are responsible for TRAINING (from inside and outside the school).

    Faculty of medicine, Suez Canal university, EDC for instant, is called CRD (Center for Research and Development in medical education and health services) and is a WHO Collaborating Center (for health manpower development, or non-degree leading training). The trainees are called "Medical Educators".

    On the other hand; the Medical Education Department like any other academic department offers degrees in medical education (Diploma-Master-MD) and prepare staff to become "Medical Educationists" or Trainers of Trainers in medical education.

    اذا كان قسم التعليم الطبي مرهون بالدور الاكاديمي من منح شهادات الدبلوم والماجستير والدكتوراه يبقي كمان جزء الresearch مسؤوليته لانه جزء لا يتجزأ من ترقيه اعضاءه

    So; we are left with the part of training; why not the quality assurance unit takes the role of training the staff; especially that NAQAAE does that part whenever asked?

    مركز الجودة والاعتماد

    ولكل دوره وللاسف يخلط دائما بينهم فتتوه المسئولية ولا يفعل احدا شيئا.

    من بعد ما فرقت فى الادوار ما بين مركز تطوير التعليم وقسم التعليم الطبى

    جاء دور مركز الجودة والذى يجب ان يكون له دور هام فى قياس مدى توائم العملية التعليمية بمقدميها من

    اقسام ووحدات لمعايير الجودة القومية (NAQAAE) والاقليمية (EMRO, WHO) والدولية (WFME)

    وكشف اى قصور والاعلان عنه....فتتولى الجهات المسئولة عن التدريب والتعليم والبحوث مثل مركز تطوير التعليم وقسم التعليم الطبى وقطاعات التعليم والدراسات العليا الاصلاح عن طريق التدريب والبحوث.

    اما لو القينا على مراكز الجودة عبىء التدريب واصلاح المناهج فستتوه عن دورها الاساسى فى الرقابة والقياس. كما انها لن تترك العيش لخبازه (مركز تطوير التعليم بالمشاركة مع قسم التعليم الطبى).
